Intro
Hi, I’m Val.
I’m a software engineer who likes building useful things — mostly for the web, usually full stack.
Right now, I work at Equip Health, where I help build tools therapists use to treat patients with eating disorders. I spend most of my time writing Java (Micronaut, Spring) and React, trying to make systems that are clean, reliable, and not too painful to work with.
Outside of work, I volunteer as the CTO of Balakun, a small nonprofit helping Ukrainians learn English and connect with the world. I help run the tech side — websites, tools, support, whatever’s needed.
I’ve been doing this kind of work for over 15 years. I like when things are thoughtfully built and easy to use, and I care about working on stuff that actually helps people.
I live in New York with my two sons, who are constantly reminding me that debugging code is sometimes easier than parenting.

About
I’ve been writing code professionally for over 15 years, but I started long before that — teaching myself HTML as a kid and running personal websites off a dial-up connection. I never really stopped tinkering.
I was born in Lviv, Ukraine, and moved to the U.S. as a child. That early experience shaped how I see the world and why I care deeply about helping people find connection and opportunity through technology.
These days, I work at Equip Health, building full-stack software to support therapists treating eating disorders — a mission I care about. I’ve previously built enterprise tools for NBA teams, modernized backend systems at Capital One, and led development teams on large-scale platforms.
I also volunteer as CTO of Balakun, a nonprofit helping Ukrainians learn English and connect with the world. I manage our infrastructure, guide a team of volunteer developers, and help keep the tech side running. It’s a small but meaningful way to give back.
Outside of work, I live on Long Island with my wife, our two sons, and a very opinionated green cheek conure named Kiki. I love skiing, travel, and any excuse to get outdoors (or drink a good cup of coffee).
I like working with people who care — about users, about quality, about impact. Whether I’m deep in a backend refactor or mentoring someone early in their career, I try to bring clarity, humility, and curiosity to the work.
